We’ll close our new season in December 2020 at The Writer’s Center with Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar. This striking contemporary drama, first produced in 2013, won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for drama and explores the many questions relating to identity, discrimination, and the costs of success. Performed without intermission, the play is a taut, riveting tale that raises probing questions about prejudice and identity, and the opposing tugs of cultural heritage and assimilation. When a dinner-party conversation turns to religion, what Bloomberg News called a "combustible powder keg of identity politics" erupts.
