Like all of us, the theatre community continues to grapple with present restrictions and future uncertainties resulting from the ongoing presence of COVID-19 among us. It has been gratifying to see that Maryland and Virginia have been able to moving into Phase 2 of reopenings, but we must all remember that under these provisions, social distancing and masks are still a necessity in public places.
Social distancing presents a particularly thorny problem for theaters and other entertainment venues as they try to assess the effects of necessarily reduced audience size added to the additional costs for cleaning and sanitizing the venues. This is, of course, on top of the constraints placed on the actors and stage personnel.
The health and safety of the audience and the theater personnel are of paramount importance and are the major factors to be considered in planning for future reopenings.
Stay safe, everyone. Remember that masks protect everyone.
